Tour description

Slovenia is a hiking paradise. Pure and intact nature of Triglav National Park with magnificent Lake Bled, mountains Krn with it’s crystal clear mountain lake and a true paradise for nature lovers – beautiful Soča River Valley. All this in one program – in a week long group hiking holiday.

Yes, we are pretty sure this guided trekking tour will take your breath away.

We start in the most popular places in the Julian Alps, including the famous Bled and Bohinj Lakes. The trail leads us through rich spruce tree forests and picturesque mountain pastures on the high karst plateau Pokljuka. You’ll get the chance to admire incredible alpine scenery. The highlight of the trek is the Mt. Krn on 2,244 m (SloActive’s favorite peak in Julian Alps). Once on top you are rewarded with wonderful views (in good weather). You can see all the way to the Adriatic Sea, Matajur, Stol, Kanin, Triglav, Lake Krn and more.

Descending to Soča Valley is also special. The emerald Soča River Valley will inspire you with its natural features and scenery. The last two nights are in Bovec – Soča Valley’s capital. Bovec offers plenty for adventure-sports enthusiasts. Nestled below the Julian Alps, above the Soča River and surrounded with Triglav National Park is just a fairy-tale town.

Join us on our majestic group hiking tour in Slovenia. You’ll be accomodated in beautiful and welcoming (smaller) hotels, two nights you’ll sleep in mountain huts in pristine natural environment. You’ll have the chance to eat typical Slovenian food and you can taste some of our famous honey brandy or borovničevec (bilberry brandy).

Tour course

Day 1

Individual arrival to Bled.

Lake Bled, famous for its immense natural beauty, together with its surroundings is considered to be one of the most beautiful alpine resorts. It is a perfect start of this unique group hiking holiday. We recommend you to come a day earlier and book an extra night here as you will love exploring this fabolous place. With its island in the middle of the lake and other natural and cultural sights, Bled will surely amaze you. And do not forget to taste the world wide known Bled cream cake, one of the Symbols of Bled. In the evening briefing with your tour guide and welcome dinner. (Hotel 3*).
Day 2

Bled - Vintgar Gorge - Bled (Approx. 15 Km, 290 Elevation M, 4-5 Hours)

Today's beautiful hike follows nice, side local paths all the way to one of the Bled simbols; spectacular Vintgar gorge. On our way back to Bled we will stop in charming little village named Zasip. Here we have a special treat for you. The village of Zasip is also called »Prgarija« and inhabitants of Zasip used to be known under the name "Prgarji", because women dried pears ("tepke") that were called "prge" and ground them to make flour. The »Prgarija« ladies still keep this traditon alive and they have upgraded the old tradition with some new reciepies and products. This is a unique culinary experience where you will hear all about this interesting culinaric history and of course you will get to taste some of its delicious goodies. (Hotel 3*, meals included: breakfast and dinner)
Day 3

Bled - Pokljuka Plateau – Bohinj Valley (Approx. 14,5 Km, 110 m ascent, 915 m descent, 4-5 Hours)

Morning (short) transfer to Pokljuka plateau (1.300 m) where our hike beginns. Fir forests, verdant mountain pastures and traditional mountain villages will be our company today. We'll admire incredible alpine scenery in Pokljuka, one of its appealing points are certainly the cattle, still grazing on many pastures during the summer season, local shepherds and cheese makers. Descending to Bohinj we'll walk through Mostnica, an Alpine river with gorges and watterfalls, and Voje valley, both with magnificent nature. Last part of the hike takes us through historic villages with traditional farmhouses and hayracks that are declared as an architectural monument. Our destination for today is beautiful Lake Bohinj, the largest lake in Slovenia in the heart of the Triglav National Park. (Hotel 4*, meals included: breakfast and dinner). *Photo of Bohinj Lake, Photo archive: www.slovenia.info, Photographer: Matevž Lenarčič
Day 4

Bohinj Valley - Savica Waterfall - Mt. Komna (Approx. 12 Km, 1.000 Elevation M, 5-6 Hours)

Our day starts magnificent! First we'll cross the Bohinj Lake on a boat, then we get to see the third most visited attraction in Slovenia. A spectacular waterfall, hidden amidst the steep walls of the Komarča - The Savica Waterfall. It is the source of the Sava Bohinjka (known under the name of Savica) to the spot where it flows into Lake Bohinj. It is one of the must-see sights for Bohinj first-timers. Today's goal is mountain Komna on 1,527 m. Komna is a vast plateau, which rises on the west side of Lake Bohinj. It is popular hiking destination but even more popular in winter as a ski-touring area due to the fact that the hut on Komna is open also during winter. (Mt hut, meals included: breakfast and dinner). *Photo of Waterfall Savica, Photo archive: www.slovenia.info, Photographer: Mojca Odar
Day 5

Mt Komna - Mt Krn (2.244 m) - Krn Lake (Approx. 17 Km, 1.000 Elevation M, 7 Hours, optional shorter version 3-4 hours)

Todaj we'll hike to one of the most beautiful mountains in Slovenia. A very popular mountain with its typical and recognisable shape in the heart of Julian Alps is seen from far away. Towards north and west the peak is steeply cut while the southern side descends in a more gentle way through green and golden meadows towards Soča Valley. During World War I fierce battles were fought on Krn and Batognica and one can still spot pieces of barbed wire, grenades and other sad remains from this tragic period. But today, Krn and the scenic Krn Lake (Slovenia's highest lake) are visited because the hike offers beautiful views and colorful alpine flora. (Mt Hut, meals included: breakfast and dinner) *Photo of the ascent to Mt Krn, Photo archive: www.slovenia.info, Photographer: Marko Šinkovec *Photo of Krn Lake: Tomaž Rozman
Day 6

Krn Lake - Soča Valley - Bovec (Approx. 12 Km, 200 Elevation M, 5 Hours)

We will descent from beautiful mountains to wild and narrow Lepena Valley where a transfer will wait for us. After short (4 km) transfer, at the confluence of rivers Lepenjca and Soča, we start walking again. The River Soča, which has a distinct emerald green colour, is considered to be one of the most beautiful rivers in Europe. Its water flows across waterfalls, small waterfalls, and cascades as well as through narrow rocky gorges, and along the way it has carved surprising canyons and pools. We arrive to Bovec, capital of the famous and beloved Soča Valley. *1st Photo of River Soča, Photo archive: www.slovenia.info, Photographer: Alan Kosmač *2nd Photo of River Soča, Photographer: Tomaž Rozman
Day 7

Bovec - round hiking tour (Approx. 12 Km, 550 M Ascent, 4-5 Hours)

Also today will be a beautiful hiking day. We'll take you to see the most visited cultural sight in the Soča Valley, the majestic Kluže fort. Located just above the Koritnica gorge, Kluže fort is an important monument to the defence against Turkish invasions, Napoleon's army and attacks during the World War I. It is captured in the remarkable nature, between the steep slopes of Rombon, Slemen and the 70 m deep emerald green gorges of the River Koritnica. The fort is called also Bovška vrata (the door of Bovec) due to its strategic important position.
