Whenever we thought about Kras in the past, we thought of a bare landscape covered with stones, unfit for life, a place where a strong bora blows. When we think of the Karst today, we think of a wooded landscape, mingled with settlements and vineyards, which give us the glorious Teran wine and the well-known Karst prosciutto. However, the Karst represents much more. Here we find special natural phenomena that are not found elsewhere in Slovenia and which have given their name to similar phenomena elsewhere in the world. Here we find wonderful cycling and other thematic routes, beautiful caves and, of course, friendly and hospitable locals.

In these two days of Cycling in Karst region, we will take you through the fascinating karst landscape, along the picturesque paths that we find most attractive, through the villages that remind us of the old times, we will stop in  cafes where, we think, the coffee taste the best and we have chosen local restaurants where the food is excellent.

You are most warmly invited to join us on this amazing two-day cycling gathering!

A winding cycling tour through mysterious Karst with it’s wild landscape and phenomenons.
UNESCO listed, beautiful Škocjan Caves are a must.
Unique Karst architecture and old stone houses.
Vilenica cave, the oldest show cave in Europe.
Italian Basovizza, a place where we will treat ourself with delicious Italian coffee.

Cycling route conditions: a combination of asphalt, gravel and forest roads. We recommend bikes with front suspension (regular trekking, electric or mountain bikes), the route is not suitable for road bikes.

Day 1

Divača - Škocjan Caves - the surrounding Karst villages - Divača (approx. 30 km and 370 elevation meters)

Only a few countries can boast such natural phenomenon of exceptional global value. We cycle to the beautiful Škocjan Caves, which have been included in the World Heritage List (UNESCO) since 1986. After visiting the caves, we re-mount the bikes again and drive around the beautiful landscape. The villages of Karst are true »food« for the eyes. Full of historical sights and specialties. We´ll have lunch in one of the authentic local inns, where the food is prepared on the basis of centuries-old recipes and a rich restaurant tradition. The way back to the hotel continues through the enchanting Karst settlements, past genuine houses and old stone Karst houses, over lush fields and on grey side-roads. We arrive at the hotel in the late afternoon. (Hotel 3*, meals included: dinner)
Day 2

Divača - Vilenica Cave - Trieste hinterland - Divača (approx. 40 km and 350 altitude meters).

It is all about getting to know the magical Karst landscape. Cycling stage starts with peddaling to Lokev village, famous for its prosciutto and further to the oldest tourist cave in Europe, which, after years of abandonment, came to life in 1963. Until the middle of the 19th century Vilenica had the reputation of being the largest, most beautiful and most frequented cave in the central Karst. Cycling continues through the famous Lipica Stud Farm, the home of elegant white Lipizzaner horses, and further to the outskirts of Trieste, to the Italian village of Basovizza, where you can enjoy in cup of delicious Italian coffee. Beautiful and diverse cycling route takes us through charming Karst settlements and small villages with unique Karst architecture before we reach our goal and end of this attractive two day´s cycling tour (meals included: breakfast). Our two-day trip ends in the afternoon hours (around 5pm - 6pm).
